🤌 It’s-a-me, visa
Will you ask for pineapple on your pizza? You better not if you want that Italian digital nomad visa! Or do it, because who really cares?
WHAT HAPPENED LATELY
Time to feel romantic and eat some good pizzas
Italy joined the wave and just launched a digital nomad visa. As of April 4, you are invited to apply in-person at an Italian consulate in your home country (you know better than me what it means).
The basic requirements are:
Health insurance: mandatory for the whole duration of the stay
Required income: €28,000 annually
Visa duration: 1 year
Renewable: annually
Criminal record: clean for the last 5 years
But that’s not all, you also need to show:
Proof of accommodation in Italy for the length of the stay
Proof that you’ve been working & living as a remote worker elsewhere (aka not your home country) for at least six months
So you have to bring documents that prove the above (valid passport, proof of employment, proof of income, health insurance, proof of accommodation in Italy, criminal record, etc.).
You can bring your family with you, but some additional requirements might be requested depending on your situation.
You’re a freelancer? They seem to accept freelancers, but you might have to register for a VAT number in Italy. As with the next point: talk with an Italian tax expert.
Taxes? That’s always a tricky question. The Italian taxation office will have first to speak to their colleagues in your country to define the agreement (if not already done). So get in touch with an Italian tax expert before applying to be sure you won’t get fined if you did something wrong.
If everything goes well and you get your visa, be aware that you have 7 days after arriving in Italy to apply for a residence permit (permesso di soggiorno).

DID YOU KNOW?
In Switzerland, you need a coin (1.- or 2.- CHF) to use a cart to carry your luggage in the airport or do the groceries. But don’t worry, you’ll get it back once you’re done.
I LEARNED THIS THE HARD WAY
In Korea, you will hear people sniff & snort in public transports. This is because it can be considered rude to blow your nose in public. So if you don’t want people to look at you weirdly, might as well start sniffing.
